Understanding the examination

New Zealand OSCE is an Objective Structured Clinical Examination comprising ten stations. Each of these assesses particular clinical competency. Apart from written examinations, the OSCE evaluates the way a nurse performs during real-time, simulated patient scenarios. This candidate will work on aspects like clinical reasoning, communication, safety practice, and professional conduct.

Candidates are assessed across the following competency areas:

 • Clinical assessment and patient observation
 • Safe medication administration
 • Infection prevention and control
 • Clinical decision-making and timely escalation
 • Therapeutic communication with patients and families
 • Accurate documentation standards
 • Professional accountability
 • Cultural safety and patient-centred care

In reality, our mentors have noticed that candidates with strong clinical backgrounds fail to understand the amount of preparation required. The OSCE assesses performance within a specific examination framework. This subsequently means defined timing, examiner expectations, and station protocols are taken into consideration. We agree that clinical experience is important. However, this must be showcased in examination-ready performance through structured practice to be an NZ-registered nurse.

Common Challenges Faced by OSCE Candidates

These errors listed below are commonly committed by candidates. Do have a look.

 • Incomplete or delayed patient identification when a station begins
 • Inefficient or incomplete documentation, like missing entries, incorrect and incomplete
 • The inability to note and escalate deteriorating patient observations on time.
 • Skipping infection control steps due to time pressure
 • Inexperienced or weak therapeutic communication, wherein the responses are either overly clinical or insufficiently structured
 • Unplanned time management across station tasks, thereby witnessing incomplete assessments.

How we prepare you

Preparation at EVAS Academy For Global Nurses is structured around individual performance — not a one-size-fits-all syllabus.

🎯

Assessment-based individual preparation

We assess your current performance level first. Communication, clinical reasoning, documentation, and cultural safety are each reviewed. Training is then customised to close the gaps identified.

📋

Daily mock OSCE stations

In-person candidates undertake daily mock assessments at every station. Tutors provide written and verbal feedback each day. Ten consecutive days of this shapes examination-ready performance.

👥

Small-batch nurse training

We believe customised training requires close attention. Small batches ensure every candidate receives individual guidance and a clear improvement path at each stage.

💻

Online and onsite options

Choose the 10-day intensive programme in person at our Muvattupuzha centre or online. The same team delivers the same content online, including regular assessments for overseas candidates.

🔗

Single tutor pathway — IQN to OSCE

From IQN preparation through to OSCE coaching, one team manages your learning journey. This allows continuous tracking and early resolution of issues before they become examination problems.

📁

Documentation support beyond training

A dedicated documentation team handles the complex administrative processes involved in international nursing registration — so you focus on preparation, not paperwork.

What we solve

Challenges our team takes on

Every candidate arrives with different gaps. Here is what we consistently address.

Applying clinical knowledge under examination conditions

Most nurses know the theory. Applying clinical judgement within timed, station-based scenarios is a different skill. Scenario-centric training from day one builds that ability.

Structured professional communication

NZ OSCE requires structured, professional communication suited to the healthcare setting. Consistent role-play sessions build the confidence to communicate clearly during the examination.

Station timing and pacing

OSCE stations operate on strict timelines. We train candidates to manage timing, stress, and documentation accuracy across every station — so nothing gets left behind.

Understanding NZ nursing standards

Professional accountability and cultural safety are central to NZ nursing. We build this mindset from the start rather than treating it as a module to complete.

Regaining confidence after a previous attempt

Repeating an exam without changing the approach does not work. We offer targeted mock sessions, customised feedback, and structured self-assessment to help you move forward.

Preparing while working abroad

Our online coaching is designed for nurses working full-time in other countries. Flexible session scheduling means preparation does not have to disrupt your current role.

My name is Dilna, and I am from New Zealand. I came to know about EVA’S Academy Global through one of my friends who told me, “If you join her classes, you will surely pass.” When I heard that, I was very interested, but the class timings were a big challenge — for me, it was 2 a.m. – 3 a.m. in New Zealand. I thought I wouldn’t be able to manage it. Still, I decided to attend just one demo class, and that single class completely changed my mind.

Hi, I’m Mariya. Thank you, God and Mother Mary. Ma’am, I’m speechless. You held my hand and stayed with me like a sister every step of the way. Today, I passed my OSCE reassessment! I had failed my first attempt, but you were there to support and guide me through the tough time. Thank you so much, Ma’am — from now on, I’m with you always. I have so much affection for you and will always remember you in my prayers. I used to not believe in miracles, but now I do. I hope everyone waiting for their reassessment result also experiences the same happiness I feel today. And to everyone — please don’t miss Ma’am’s classes. Attend them sincerely and practice well. Thank you so much, Ma’am! Love you!

My name is Sherin, and I came to know about EVA’S Academy Global through one of my friends. I joined the academy before my IQN exam, and later continued with ma’am for my OSCE online classes as well. It was such a truly wonderful experience — I can’t even express how beautifully and patiently she handled every class. The most special thing about ma’am’s teaching is that she never uses complicated English, but always explains everything clearly, sometimes even in our mother tongue, Malayalam, so that every student can easily understand each concept.

Pearson VUE administers the computer-based theoretical assessment known as the IQN (Internationally Qualified Nurse) exam. As directed by the Nursing Council of New Zealand, it assesses clinical judgment, drug safety, nursing knowledge, and professional decision-making.

Indeed. The NCNZ registration process for internationally qualified nurses requires the OSCE. It cannot be determined solely by years of experience or credentials.

Ten stations make up the New Zealand OSCE, and each one evaluates a distinct clinical ability.

Exam scheduling, document verification, and individual circumstances would all affect the timeline. Although it’s not a given, many applicants finish the procedure in six to nine months

Your nursing qualification certificates, registration history, identity documents, and professional experience records are usually required by TruMerit. Due to the possibility of updates, specific requirements should be verified directly with TruMerit.

Inadequate station timing, poor documentation, improper escalation, and a weak communication structure are the main causes. Structured preparation can help to enhance these.

Indeed. Our online coaching program was created especially for applicants who are preparing from overseas. It includes personalized tutor feedback, mock sessions, and coverage of all OSCE competency areas.

Online coaching is beneficial for developing clinical thinking, communication skills, and theoretical comprehension. We offer a 10-day comprehensive on-site training program for clinical simulation. It offers the most comprehensive preparation. A lot of applicants combine the two formats.
